Jana el Omer (Reaping of Age)(2012)

Set in nineteenth-century French-occupied Lebanon, Jana el Omer follows Salma, a young woman who disguises herself as a boy named Salim to escape persecution by French soldiers. Sheltered by the Franco-Lebanese physician Dr. Patrick, she finds herself drawn into a romance that defies the era's social and political boundaries. Written by Maguy Biqae and directed by Lilliane Boustany, the period drama stars Youssef El Khal opposite Elsa Zgheib in the lead roles, alongside an ensemble of prominent Lebanese television actors.
